Talking Trash Water…make that waste water

No matter what you call it, our waste water rates stink! The City Council has a suggestion to provide some relief. They are providing a public hearing (9/6) and straw poll (you go to City Hall to vote). You’re welcome to post your comments about as a reponse to this entry or on the City web site. If you feel strongly, the public hearing is the best place to be heard.

Garden of Rollingwooden? Watch out for snakes!

This morning one of our ECO meter readers was bitten by what is believed to be a two-foot long coral snake, apparently while she was reaching into a meter box on Riley Road.  I only pass this on so that we are aware of this.
This is pretty serious  — so our kids (and ourselves) should know that coral snakes are out and about.  {{In dry times, I have seen them 3 feet from my front door — I called the Nature Center at the time and said that they get closer to homes in dry times as the snakes are pursuing rodents that are closer to homes because of dry times.   If bit, one should call 911 so the triage  can be set up and so that the anti-venom can be located.

Oops…Corner Social is SUNDAY 9/3

The Corner Social is on Sunday 9/3, not 9/2. The heat is addling my brains - that goodness that it finally rained.

Don’t park THERE! ACL Parking Ordinance passed

The City Council has adopted a parking ordinance to address parking issues created by ACL (and other large commerical events) at Zilker Park. The map below shows the basic parking restrictions in effect:

  • Rollingwood is closed near Zilker to ensure traffic flow
  • Timberline’s north curb is closed near Zilker to ensure traffic flow
  • Parking between Riley and Zilker is permit restricted to residents in that area.

The city will distribute more detailed at www.cityofrollingwood.com shortly.

Tentative Garage Sale Date: Saturday November 11th

Everyone had better start cleaning out the garage - we’ve got a tenative date for the City Wide Garage Sale. We tried to pick the last practical weekend before the Holiday Season. Please let us know ASAP if you know of any major conflicts with this date.

The garage sale runs early in the day and should not interfer with afternoon events.
We are planning to use the web site for sign-ups. Stay tuned for details.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact Joy (garagesale@myrollingwood.com)

Tentative BBQ Date: Saturday October 21th

Bill Hamilton (bbq@myrollingwood.com) and I have reviewed the calendar and it looks like Saturday 10/21 is the best date for the BBQ. There is no UT Football home game this weekend. The Eanes Elementary Fall Carnival is the following day (10/22).
If you know of other conflicts, please let us know ASAP. We expect to make this date official by 9/3.

What is a City Wide Garage Sale?

Joy Baldwin (garagesale @ myrollingwood.com) is chairing our City Wide Garage Sale.  I hope that she’ll post on this site as we get closer to the date, but I’ll try to answer questions until then.

The CWGS is a single day when many people in the city all have a garage sale.  We do NOT pool all the sales into a single location; instead, each seller will have maps to the other sellers.  In some cases, we’ve had neighbors combine into a single drive way.  For example, my across the street neighbor reluctantly sold our 4 MONSTER TRUCK tires (thanks again Tara!).
The many advantages of having everyone on the same day are:

  1. it’s fun to meet your neighbors
  2. the RNA takes care of your permit (yes, you DO need a permit for a garage sale)
  3. the RNA takes care of advertising (tin pie plates are optional)
  4. it draws a larger crowd (yes, I know some of you don’t like this.  Please send angry emails to “thevoid@myrollingwood.com”)
  5. it motivates you to clean out the garage
  6. you can find everyone in Rollingwood who shares your passion for second-hand 70’s art-deco vinyl kitchen chairs with psychedelic flowers

City Website Updates!

The City has been doing a great job using the new website to get notices out for meetings including agendas and ordinances.  Thanks!
As promised, RNA will send out an extra edition of the newsletter to help get the word out about the 8/23 special session.

There is also an open offer to the City to host informal polls and allow the Mayor and Aldermen to contribute to this blog.

New Rollingwood Citizen

We are pleased to welcome Eliot Greenwood Morrow (born 8/11) to the neighborhood.

Council pospones decisions on ACL parking & Committees

While the City Council conducted lots of business last week including the dedication of a tree, review of the budget, and listening to a highly entertaining and informative presentation by the RNA president; they postponed action on the two most debated items: ACL parking and changes to appointments for boards & commissions. (wow - my sentences run on like an actual Council meeting)

On 8/23 @ 7 PM, the Council will discuss an alternate plan for parking during the Austin City Limits Music Festival. This was supposed to be a special budget session, but the agenda has been expanded.

At the September Council Meeting (9/13?), the Council will discuss the Mayor’s proposal for changes to the board appointment process.
