Rollingwood Resident, Cath Polito, chairs “Heros of Central Texas Celebration”
April 10, 2007 by president.
Cath Polito in second year as chair of Heroes of Central Texas Celebration
Most people who volunteer for the American Red Cross help with programs such as disaster relief services or service to military families and training, but Westbank resident Cath Polito has volunteered in a different way; she helps raise money so these services can be provided.
Polito, executive director of the Center for Lifelong Engineering Education at UT, is serving in her second year as chair of the committee for the American Red Cross’ premiere fundraising event – the Heroes of Central Texas Celebration.
“My primary job is to solicit money for corporate sponsorships,” said Polito, who has been on the board of directors for almost three years. “I am inspired by this incredible event because it honors people who have performed selfless acts throughout our community – ordinary people doing extraordinary things – our everyday heroes!”
“I choose to volunteer for the American Red Cross because it is an organization that gives to the community in all times of need,” Polito continued. “One thing most people don’t know about our chapter is that we respond to a disaster somewhere in our nine counties every other day. We hope that through this Heroes event, many people and corporations will build long-term partnerships with the Red Cross and continue giving their time and support for future needs.”
The American Red Cross of Central Texas serves the counties of Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Lee, Llano, Milam, Travis and Williamson. American Red Cross assistance is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for emergency and disaster-caused needs. Central Texans who wish to make a financial contribution to the American Red Cross of Central Texas can call 800 or 512-928-4271, send a financial contribution to 2218 Pershing Drive, Austin, 78723 or make a secure on-line donation at www.centex.redcross.org. For information on Red Cross services or volunteer opportunities please call 800 or 512-928-4271 or look online at www.centex.redcross.org.
