Look out for ‘Free Tree’ flyers
August 19, 2007 by Lserface.
As part of Rollingwood’s ‘Green Neighborhood’ project, we will soon participate in a ‘free tree’ planting day. Our partners on this project are Neighborwoods, Austin Energy, and TreeFolks.
Together, these folks are helping communities plant the right tree in the right place. Trees are valuable to communities as they simultaneously clean the air, save energy by cooling the neighborhood, make areas more aesthetically pleasing and increase property value.
It is important to consider the location of utility lines both overhead and underground when planting trees. Trees which will not grow to a size which will interfere either with the utility or the tree’s growth should be selected when planting around utility lines.
In preparation for Rollingwood’s planting day, your front yard will be visually reviewed by Neighborwoods/TreeFolks this next week. If your yard qualifies for a free tree, a small flag would be placed in your front yard (identifying the recommended tree location) AND a flyer will also be left at your door. Should you desire to adopt a new tree, you will follow up with Neighborwoods/TreeFolks.
The commuity-wide planting date will be set in the near future!
